Ken Grider jr while in the US Navy he got his first Harley a 1958 K Model SPORTSTER And had it for about 1 year had a wreck and totaled it. Then in 1964 he purchased a 1964 XLCH SPORTSTER. A friend was run over by a 18 Wheeler and was killed while riding his bike, the bike was totaled and his friends wife gave Ken his nickname of spider, the whole thing is a long story and you can read about it in his book that will be coming out soon. After leaving the Navy he got a Harley sprint and was one of the first people in Oklahoma to turn a Harley sprint into a chopper. And in Oklahoma where he lived the nearest HARLEY SHOP was a 138 miles away, and until some fellow bikers told him about a old biker that everyone recommended who lived about thirty miles away worked on Harleys, he then took his bike to him to be worked on and after getting to know that old biker he learned how to repair and work on and restore motorcycles , through the years after getting to know that old biker, using the knowledge he received from that old guy, he opened his own bike shop and repaired ,restored and customized motorcycles..Later he taught himself to paint. He turned his love of art, and motorcycles into a passion . His relatives and some family members were musicians and he inherited that from them and still plays music today and has written some of is own songs and will have music CD soon..In 1987 he joined an organization called A.B.A.TE. A BROTHERHOOD AIMING TOWARDS EDUCATION He. got involved in bikers rights and helping promote the organization. During his membership in A.B.A.T.E. he became president of the Oklahoma City Chapter. During his terms as president he helped to fight the helmet laws and was instrimential in getting a Motorcycle Safety Program started in the state of Oklahoma and was lucky enough to appear on a television talk show program in Oklahoma to help promote A.B.A.T.E. and the Motorcycle Safety Program, While promoting the Safety Program he met a motorcycle patrolman training officer and helped organize the education program with the help of A.B.A.T.E members and that training officer., and while trying to promote the program he met some state Senators and Legislators and got to work with them closely about bikers rights and the Safely Program he served on the Oklahoma Safety and Awareness Council on the board of Directors and Was one of the first 12 people trained as a Motorcycle Safety Instructor through the Motorcycle Safety Foundation in the State and after becoming a nationally Certified Instructor he also served on the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Motorcycle Safety Education Program and also taught riding classes until leaving Oklahoma. He does glass an mirror engravings and some of his work is in Australia in one of the big bike shops in Melborne. In 1999 he found out he had cancer and after having his operation he had to deal with all the chemo treatments until March of 2000 And is still cancer free to this day. He came to Arizona, after his fight with cancer to visit some friends and decided that he needed to move here. And in July of 2000 came here to live. Shortly after arriving in Arizona he started attending Motorcycle Mechanics Institute to further his knowledge of motorcycle mechanics After graduating from MMI he went to work for the Indian Motorcycle Company in there motorcycle testing program as a Certified Technition and a test rider while working for Indian Motorcycle testing program he was promoted to a supervisor of the test riders and a technical advisor until the Indian Motorcycle Company closed there doors. During the time he worked for the Indian Testing Program he also worked at SONNY BARGERS CAVE CREEK CYCLES as a Service Manager and Mechanic. While working at SONNY BARGERS shop he learned that SONNY had written some books and after reading them, it got him interested in writing his own book and is working on it now. When the Indian Motorcycle Company closed down and SONNYS shop closed down because of a death of the owner, he went to work for MOTORCYCLE MECHANICS INSTITUTE as a Instructor, after working there for awhile , he worked on bikes and started building bikes to sell at his home and later opened HIGH DESERT CHOPPERS in Black Canyon city Arizona . He will continue to do his art work and build bikes and has plans to finish his book and is in the process of recording a CD of his music and will continue to live the biker life style until the good lord takes him away. Spiders wife Scooter supported him all the time while he was attending MMI and supports him in everything he is doing to this day.. She rides her own bike along with him whenever they go riding. His favorite saying is a quote from Roy Rodgers (MAY THE GOOD LORD TAKE A LIKING TO YOU.) His book when finished is called BROTHERHOOD IS FOREVER. The music CD he is working is called DIRTY OLD BIKER. He is a firm believer in a saying that he heard from a biker named SANDY ALEXANDER in NEW YORK (THE GREATEST PLEASURE IN LIFE, IS DOING WHAT THEY SAY,YOU CANNOT DO.AND DOING IT WITH THE ONES YOULOVE.)
